Childhood Friendship is Golden
Childhood friends are forever! Examples of such friendships are galore where a childhood friend has forsaken everything for his friend. Such friendships never blossom as we mature and grow old. The friendship that develops between two friends in school or through living in the same locality, often goes on to become everlasting and is never broken by any outside force. I am still in touch with my childhood friend from school and she is like a pillar of support to me. She lives in a different city, but we keep in touch through phone, letter and email. She also makes it a point to come down at my place in holidays or during special occasions. The bond that forms between two childhood friends is unbreakable. Such friendships are intuitive, where one friend understands the mind of the other. Do you have a childhood friend who makes your life worth living? If yes, do share your friendship thoughts with me. Surprise your childhood friend with this warm friendship greeting!

Delirious Friends of the Celebrity World
If you haven't seen Delirious starring Steve Buscemi you should definitely watch. It's directed by Tom DiCillo the director of Living in Oblivion (also starring Steve Buscemi). I think Tom DiCillo is just continuing to explore the 'celebrity culture' theme. He does it beautifully in Delirious -- depicting the fact that everyone is connected to the food chain.
One thing I liked about the movie is the underlying theme of friendship -- weird and quirky. People bond almost in an instant and loose friends just as easily. In the nether world of celebrities the right time in the right place counts just like Toby (played by Michael Pitt) learns. One wrong move and you're gone. Such is the ups and downs of celebrity friendships portrayed in a satirical movie.
Here's the trailer that you can check out:
You can also read the NY Times Review.
Go watch it, preferably with a friend. And if have seen it, let me know what you make of it.

Friendship Quote from Marlene Dietrich
Here's a friendship quote from Marlene Dietrich -- "It is the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter." Remember her career started as a cabaret singer, chorus girl and film actress in the 1920s. In the 30s she was a Hollywood start and during World War II she was entertaining in the front lines. So I think she knows a lot about friendships -- don't you think? You can check out her complete profile on IMDB or visit the Marlene Dietrich official site.
What I love about her is her classic charm. Here's a short clip on "I get a Kick Out of You"

Toxic Friendships
What exactly is a 'toxic friend'?
According to Jenn Berman -- a psychologist in Beverly Hills, CA -- is someone who after spending time with them makes you feel bad about yourself instead of good. You can read more about what she has to say in this article on How to handle toxic Friendships.
How do you know if you're in a toxic friendship? You can take this quick online quizz to determine if She's a Toxic Friend. Oprah's Toxic Relationships web page also have a bunch of articles and resources to help you if you think you're in a toxic friendship. You can't miss iVillage's 6 Types of Toxic Friends and How You Can Deal with Them article either.
I hope you're not in a toxic friendship and if you are I'm wishing you a very good luck in handling, facing, confronting your friend. And in advanced -- here's a virtual hug from me:

Harry Potter Friendship Lessons

Hello people it's almost that 'back to school' time again and summer vacation is almost over. I really had fun this time around hanging out with my friends and really enjoying their company. I just did this really cool quiz on Which Harry Potter character are you? And here's the result:

Which HP Kid Are You?
Pretty cool huh? I really liked the new movie for Harry Potter. In fact I love all the movies. I'm a big fan of Harry Potter because I think it they teach you a lot about friends. Friends really stick out for each other and are there for each other through thick and thin. Sometimes I feel out of this world facing my own monsters and problems but with friends I feel different because we can face it all together. It's less of a burden and more fun. At times you're having so much fun with your friends that you forget your troubles all together.
Have you seen the Lego HP spoof? It's soooo funny you have to see it. Check it out here:
Anyways, I hope to be able to post on a more regular basis from here on out. Take care, and visit back soon!

Thinker Blog Award!
Family man of Build Tomorrow had given the Friendship Blog (that's this blog!) The Thinking Blog Award. It was started by Llker Yodas at The Thinking Blog if you don't know what a Thinking Blog is you can read Are you a thinking blogger? to know what it's all about.
So what are the blogs that makes me think? And the ones that I'm giving the Thinker Blog Award to? (Drum rolls) Here it is:
1. Ben Yoskovitz's Instigator Blog is a place I visit almost everyday for a daily dose of wisdom.
2. Beth Ellen's Eclectic Studio Cafe is a place I love hanging out just to relax and feast my eyes. Her photography is simply amazing!
3. And when I'm suck I always run to Beta Bloggers for Dummies.
4. When I need inspiration or a couple of laughs I go to We Blog Cartoons (Dave even lets me use his cartoons in my blog!)
5. And let's not forget another Dave with his very cool Love Poems & Love Quotes blog always sets me in a romantic mood!
The rules of the blog meme is simple enough -
Whoever I've tagged to in the above list is under no obligation to accept the award, link back or to even carry on the meme. Should the bloggers choose to carry on with the mission however:
1. You have to write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think.
2. Have link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
3. Optionally display the 'Thinking Blogger Award' with a link to the post that you wrote. There's also other silver and gold version to fit the design of your blog.

In Rememberance...
![]()
This post is dedicated to those who have fallen and for those who are fighting for our freedom. We will be always grateful for their sacrifices.
In Flanders Field
by John McCrae (1872-1918)
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Tips On Fitting In
![]()
Now that final exams are almost over or are done with for most of us so we are all ready for hanging out, BBQs and having summer parties. So I thought I'd do a little research on friendships and how to get along. I found some tips on 'fitting in' with your friends -- they're Traits that Help You Hang Out with Other People from Succeed Socially.
Here's a gist of those tips:
- A tolerance for mildly flaky, unreliable behavior
- A tolerance for unpredictability (or the ability to go with the flow)
- The ability to amuse yourself when you have to
- A tolerance for other people's stupidity (being drunk, reckless, messy, etc.)
- A thick enough skin to not take joking too seriously
- A tolerance for little annoyances in the situations you find yourself in
- Not being too stingy with your money
- You can throw yourself into what everyone else is doing and not get stuck in your head
- You're not too self-focused
- You can contribute to people's conversations

Friendship Humor

What will we do with friendships without humor? Every now and then we have to laugh right? It's the best way to bond and laughter is the best medicine. "A woman can never have enough love, laughter, or great friendships in her life," wrote Tina Frazer, founder of Lets Be Friends Community. It's a social network community for women to socialize and make new friends.

Mothers and their Friendships
Every Mother Needs Her Friends! Says Elizabeth Scott - the guide to Stress Management on About.com
Mothers are at an increased risk of depression starting with the baby blues and it goes on throughout her life. That's why her friends are her most valuable resource.
Friendships and motherhood go hand in hand for not just social support and sharing advice. Mothers need friends to get them out of the house for enjoying the outdoors or for just having a "moms' night out". On top of that their kids can meet and interact with each other -- which is an important part of the bonding process.

Friends After Life
I found a story about friendship on True Friends at Adopt A Cat Foundation site.
A man carrying his cat was walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the kitty in his arms had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble.
At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother of pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the cat walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.
When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?"
"This is Heaven, sir," the man answered.
"Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked.
"Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
"Can my friend," gesturing toward his kitty, "come in, too?" the traveler asked.
"I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets."

Send this friendship thoughts eCard !
The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his cat. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road which led through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.
"Excuse me!" he called to the reader. "Do you have any water?"
"Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there". The man pointed to a place that couldn't be seen from outside the gate. "Come on in."
"How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the cat.
"There should be a bowl by the pump."
They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the kitty. When they were full, he carried the cat back toward the man who was standing by the tree waiting for them.
"What do you call this place?" the traveler asked.
"This is Heaven," was the answer.
"Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too."
"Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's Hell."
"Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?"
"No. I can see how you might think so, but we're just happy that they screen out the folks who'll leave their best friends behind."

Friendship Lessons

I crossed my 100th post! That's so great and I wanted to post 100 things about friendship but I hadn't had the time to post with papers and stuff that I have to write. So here's a little something that I'd like to share with you all about friendship and life -- something I got over the email.
"A good friend will come bail you out of jail....
But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying WE screwed up, but we had fun!
Proud to be your Friend!
Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence, and don't skip ahead .
I've learned... that life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.
I've learned... that money doesn't buy class.
I've learned... that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.
I've learned...that under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.
I've learned...that to ignore the facts does not change the facts.
I've learned...that the less time I have to work, the more things I get done.
To all of you...make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence.

Wisdom of Friendship

Send this Buddha Purnima eCard !
Tommrrow is Buddha Purnima -- the most sacred day in the Buddhists regard every full moon as sacred by the full moon of the months between April - May is very special significance because Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and attained Nirvana when he died on this day. It is this strange, three fold coincidence that makes Buddha Purnima to be very important.
Buddha often talked about what friendship is and what a good friend is supposed to be in his teachings. He also said, "An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind." A good friend gives a kind of happiness by knowing the fact that we are all connected inside. That's what a good friend is really all about.
A true friend helps us when we're in need. They protect us. A good friend is a refuge in life. A friend who is constantly there no matter we're facing happiness or sorrow or trouble in our lives. We share secrets in friendship and the friend will not betray our secrets - in fact, good friends warn us when we're treading on dangerous roads. This sort of a friend is a gift.
